What if my school doesn't rank? (California)

So I've been looking at what stuff UT looks at when they accept students, and it seems that they dont care about GPA but class rank is extremely important. So what happens if my school doesn't rank students? What effect does this have on my acceptance chances?

Thanks.

“For students from non-ranking schools, a rank is estimated using the student’s GPA and grade distributions provided by the schools.” Of course, your estimated rank will be only one thing UT considers as a part of their “holistic review” of your application.

Good luck!

jettski1, my son’s school in Maine didn’t rank, and he got in. The school didn’t weight, either, so his GPA didn’t look that high.

Yeah, thats how my school is too, and I hate it. I hate getting a 3.X GPA unweighted when actually it is much higher than that. And if a school happens to be too lazy to calculate it themselves, it really ruins my chances. Why would HS not add the extra point? It’s just stupid. Anyways, thanks for the help. Any other responses are appreciated.

jettski1, I hear you! To make matters worse, the school DID award the kids who finished in the top ten of the class. From what he could tell, DS thinks he was literally #11! It really annoyed him, because the majority of the top ten kids were in “regular” classes versus honors. I told him that colleges are pretty good at noticing details like that, and I was right (whew!).
