What if you aren't a prodigy at your passion?

I understand that good college app essays are written about your passion-- some activity that you care deeply about. But is it ok if you are decent at this activity, but not amazingly good?

I have a few activities (piano, martial arts, cross country, track) that are very important to me-- I really enjoy spending time doing them-- but I don't have any amazing gifts in any one particular area.

So can you still write an effective essay, and be seen as appealing by even top colleges in this situation?

Of course. Not everyone is a super genius or wunderkind and nobody can be good at everything.

It's more important that you have passions and that your personality and passions come across in your application. Being the best isn't necessary.

Yup!

I am a bad martial artists in terms of finess, but I love it. I hit like a train though. =D

haha, awesome. Thanks guys... it just seems like everybody is some national champion pianist, or school record holder in track or something...

haha yea, this is the inflated impression one gets by being on CC

:( .............

Very few college applicants are prodigies. Most college applicants get into some college. Indeed, in this country, something like 60% of college applicants get into their first choice college.

I hope I'm in that 60%...

I quite strongly agree with everyone else.
