Colleges all say to try to get leadership positons in clubs. What if for one thing your school doesn't have a lot of clubs? Also what if the same people dominate the clubs. How are people supposed to get leadership positions. I don't get it. In my school there's this one person. They are in like four clubs and are going to be the presidents in all of them. I'm in most of those clubs but if they're the leaders how am I supposed to get a position.

Also why do they want leadership positions. Some people are just followers and maybe not leaders. After all you do need followers to be a leader.

:) Start your own club I guess, if there only like four or five. Or just try and beat that person out on one of the clubs, not all of them. Colleges wanted to see that you took an active part in the club and not just sat around, you know. Do YOU want to be a follower? lol

I'm in the same situation but in my case the issue is that most of the clubs at my school don't offer a leadership position, very few are even seriously organized. Regarding the why do then want leaders? Because they want "proactive" people, people who'll take the initiative etc...followers are ok I guess, but it depends on the Uni. for ex: harvard would take a leader over a follower any day

Hey I'm in the exact same position. I missed out on being a prefect which means I am automatically rejected to be in the ball (prom) commitee, the yearbook comittee, any other school function comitees, presidential positions, or most leadership positions.

Which sucks.

Well after an hour of sulking, I decided that if I can't have a position in school, I'd get one out of school.

I'm in couple of groups outside the school (MakePovertyHisotry,e tc..) and like, I co-ordinate some events, which have nothing to do in the school. I think these show that I'm able to take initiative, reach out to the community and help out, instead of someone who gets things offered to them (ie in school). To hell with school!

Take the lead in a community service project. No all leaders are a club president. Identify a (new) service opportunity and take the lead in "handling" it!

Heh, it's hard to get a leadership position in my school, unless you start a random club. Would colleges be able to tell if someone started a club solely to be the founder/leader though? :)

I have a different problem. I'm perfectly satisfied NOT being a leader. =\ But hey, can't have a leader without people who want to be led....
