What if you don't pass your math class?

I've already applied to the UC's (UCSB, UCI, UCSD, UCD, UCSC), but I'm hanging on a thread in my UC-transferable math class. If I don't end up passing it, is my application automatically thrown away?

What if I pass a UC-transferable class in the spring? I'll be taking Stats at that time.

I do not think they will automatically throw your application away. However, an F in any course, let alone one in a core subject like Math, is going to make you a far less competitive applicant and probably result in a very slim chance of acceptance at any of the schools you applied to.

Sorry to say it, but your app will in effect be “thrown away” if that math course is being used to satisfy the requirement for admission. With UCSD, for example, you need college algebra in order to satisfy the math requirement. If you don’t pass that class by the fall, you’re SOL. There are no exceptions, as I learned last year when I was in this exact situation.

Wish I could be nicer about it, but I’ve been through this and dragging it out sucks more. All math/English requirements must be completed by fall.

My counsellor told me you could complete a Math/English course in the Winter and be fine. She said just not to wait until Spring because then you will definitely not be admitted.

^ Are community colleges doing the quarter system now? I always considered winter/spring semester one and the same.

^some are quarter, some are semester, and some are semester systems that have the winter intersession thingy where you can squeeze in a class or two lol

@nick: That depends on the CC. Some (like mine) have winter “intersession” which is applied toward the fall semester. Others apply it toward the spring. You’d need to check with your CC and see how they do things.
