What if your CC does not offer Major Preq's?

I looked at assist.org for the classics major at Berkeley but my school does not offer any of major preq's (there is only 2 preq's) but in fact I don't think any CCC's offer the preq courses for this major. Right now I am a history major but I want to Be a classics major. How does this work when you apply because the two most important things in admission is GPA and major preq's right? how would I compete with other applicants in the humanities if they have their major preq's done? Any information or stories relating to this situationwould be helpful. thank you everybody that responds!

Ohh and is there any classes I should take that would show that I have interest in the Classics major because again my college does not offer anything and I am worried that I will not be seen as a serious candidate.

Maybe you should address why you want to be a Classics major in the second part of your personal statement. Other than that I do not really know hopefully other CC members can help.

well you would have to take those preq's and then any class that transfers to the school and then you would take the rest of the preq's there as a pre major or something i'm guessing, that's what i'm doing, and do the IGETC is applicable

I will have IGETC done this fall. Are you in a similar situation dragon?

If none of the CCCs offer those courses, then other Classics major wouldn't have those done either.. UNLESS they fulfilled it through summer session at one of the UCs that offer those pre-reqs (hint) :)

You could also look at courses like BYU's distance learning stuff (that was the one my high school pointed us to, so no guarantees if they'll credit it or anything), or try summer session at that school.

I'd say don't stress it, but if you can take any of those, it shows that you're realllllly dedicated.

The problem is not trying to compete against other classic majors it is trying to compete against everybody who applies to the humanities department since Berkeley admits students based on how competitive their department they are applying to is.

I would love to take a summer session but its to late I am applying this semester so I can not take a summer class.

Is anyone else in the same situation where there CC does not offer major preq's?
Or have some information on my dilemma?

yeah i'm in the same situation i think, i have igetc done also and i'm majoring in communications to transfer to ucsb and they don't offer the pre req courses at my cc so i would just need 60 transferable units that includes igetc and if i get in then i would apply as a pre communications major and have to take the classes there, hope that helps, have you tried talking to a counselor?
