Hi guys, I looked at assist.org and for my major, I noticed that my school does not have any classes for one pre-req required at my target UC.
Would I be “forgiven” for not taking a pre-req course because my CCC does not offer it? Or would it still be held against me for not having taken the class?
If there isn’t a course at your college or relatively close by (meaning in the district) they will let it slide. They don’t expect you to drive from peninsula to SF, for instance.
However, you will have to take any missing lower division courses after transfer. If they are part of a sequence of prerequisites, they may complicate post-transfer scheduling and increase the risk of needing more than 4 semesters or 6 quarters to graduate.
Going out of your way to take prereqs that aren’t offered at your CC reflects well upon you, though.
Are you a Philosophy major? If so, most CCCs don’t offer the prerequisites. You won’t be penalized if you can’t take them. Very few transfers have them all completed.
Be sure to plan your first post-transfer quarters or semesters carefully to complete any missing courses, prioritizing those which are important prerequisites for upper division courses, in order to minimize the risk of needing extra quarters or semesters to graduate. The good news is that upper division philosophy courses tend not to have long sequences of prerequisites (but check the catalogs and schedules of the campuses are you are applying to), so the risk of needing extra quarters or semesters probably is not that high.
