How is everyone preparing for the possibility that their EA/ED plans fall through? Usually the schools notify you of their decisions by December 1, leaving you a month to get new applications ready for regular decision at other schools. So that you’re not crunched for time and stressed out, will you rewrite essays or apply your early ones to same or different topics? Are you only targeting common application schools to save time? Are you changing application presentations entirely? etc. Or are you preparing ahead of time by completing as many applications as possible? Opinions…

I strongly suggest that you get everything ready for RD app.s while you do your EA/ED app. and have them ready to go just in case.

at my school all applications have to be turned in by november 1st regardless of ea/ed

the RD apps should look much more impressive than ED apps, if not equally good.

look at the ed/ea admittance rates. Personally, I wouldn't want to be in the boat of being december, not getting in to my 1st choice school, and still filling out applications

Me too. with RD, you still have plenty of time to tweak up your apps, and also the mid term grades and also be helpful.

What about teacher rec? Should I request my teachers to make extra copies "just in case"?

The way I remember it last year, most seniors got their decision letters right around December 15th, and the ones who got rejected/deffered had to spend their whole winter break re-doing their apps. How painful it looked.. I do not want to be there.

teacher recs should be done before you turn in your ed/ea application for your rd schools shouldn't it? So I would get extra copies

Should I just get them to mail rec's for my RD school along with my ED/EA schools? Do colleges accept teacher rec's when they are sent before the actual application..?

No, you are supposed to hand the rec letters to your gc so that she mails the entire package for you.

For all you EDers out there, as of now, are you just focusing on your ED app or all of your apps?

I've only be focusing on my early applications. Now I'm getting worried that I should complete RD ones as well.

This is really confusing me: can I submit the application online and mail in the supplementary forms such as recommendation letters and transcript?

I wouldn't just work on ed if I were you. Even if you don't go full throttle on your rd ones yet, at least get them started.

Yep, I've started the common application ones. The recommendations forms, in general, are confusing me though. Is it important that the forms are completed, or is it okay that only a letter is submitted without the form? Because one of my teachers retired, I'm not sure if I can send him all the forms.

It is really best to have all of yor stuff ready to go. That way should you get deferred or rejected from your ED/EA school, you won't have to worry about putting together your other apps when your head and your heart may not be into it. Don't wait until th elast minute because computers crash, you run out of ink and what ever can happen ususally does.

The upside to the common application is that it is a one stop shopping approach. When organizing your applications, if your school uses the common app, I would recommend you using the common app because it does help streamline things. Then ll you have to do is organize your supplemental information (peer recs, additional essays etc)

What we did in our house is D set up a spread sheet and listed the schools which she was applying to and what was needed for each school (supplemetal essays, why essays, no fee if filing on line, Css profile, Fafsa, etc). She applied to 7 schools all which took the common app.

She had 2 schools which need additional essays (amherst and tufts) she crafted the amherst essay that it would also work for tufts.

She had 3 Why this school essay: framed out one essay that could be used for all 3 schools, made minor modifications in order to personalize them to each school.

Got one friend to write the peer recommendations

Gave each teacher one copy of the Common app teacher rec form, and 7 stamped envelopes along with 7 self addressed postcards . On the other side of the card D wrote received by, the name of each school and in the corner the initials of the recommender. The schools were very good about stamping the cards and mailing them back when they received the information. Techers filled out the form once, signed each copy and printed out 7 copies of their recs.

Did the same thing with the GC (except she had to give a bigger envelope)

She tracked things on her spread sheet as to when she sent stuff out, when the school received them (do the post cards it eliminates a lot of stress). In the end she was accepted to all 7 schools.

Here's a question: if you apply early decision to one school, are you allowed to send in your 'Intent to Apply' regular decision at other schools, or do you have to wait until you are notified about early decision?

You can actually apply to your RD schools if you apply ED somewhere else. However if accepted to your ED school, you just have to withdraw your application. However you can save your self some money by actually waiting to send your fees until after you hear the decision about your ED school.

thats true but I heard from a number of places that the earlier you apply, the better it is, even if it isnt ED.

Is it true that EA/ED students may get rejected and not deffered

Yeah, only if their stats are horrible.
