What if your SAT score is a little bit below than what NYU expect?

Hi! I’m a rising senior and I’m about to apply to several colleges; NYU is one of them. I want to major in Engineering and I’ve heard about NYU Poly a couple weeks ago. However, the only issue is that my SAT doesn’t meet the requirements. I’ve taken the SAT twice and it was around a high 1500 and low 1600. I’ve been practicing and I rose my score up to 200 points. However, my actual aim is to get a 2000+. However, just because of misfortune, what if I get a 1900? What if my CR does not meet the 25 percentile requirement which is a 620? I know for a fact that I can achieve a 770+ in math and at least a 700 in writing (I’ve been practicing and I can write a very strong essay).

I’ve been told that the SAT is one part of the college process. I take the full IB diploma with an unweighted GPA of a 3.63 and a weighted GPA of a 4.5. If I meet all of NYU’s requirements except for my SAT score, what chance do I have to getting in?

Just an FYI: I’m just sticking with the SAT and the SAT subject tests. I’ve taken the ACT and I’m more comfortable with the timing on the SAT compared to the ACT.

NYU is notoriously expensive; can you pay their fees?

@“aunt bea” " Yeah, it is a bit expensive, but I think I can pay the fees. Do you think I could get in?

Sorry, SAT is too low.

Your SAT is too low at 1500-low1600. 1900+ should put you in the competitive range.

I got accepted to #NYU2019 CAS with a 1900 SAT score.

@DHMIS1 My goal is a 2100. I was just asking if by any misfortune, what would happen if my CR reading score is a 600 and my math and writing score are above the 75th percentile?

I’m in the same boat. 520 math but 700 and 730 reading and writing, respectively.

I think that if you break 600 in your weaker area and are closer to 75th percentile on the other, then you have a shot as long as you have a decent gpa. That is assuming you plan to major in something that matches your strength on the SAT.

D was accepted with a 610 math and 720 verbal. But since she is a studio art major, that factored into it, too.

I knew a girl who was accepted this year to NYU with a 1650 SAT. Not saying it’s super common but it’s possible.
