I know I am getting ahead of myself but since I am not even admitted to UMich...I will worry about that later but...What if and this is a big IF...after Freshman year I am not admitted to Ross and I stay in LSA as an Econ major and maybe a Stats minor....where can I go in the job market from there? I know UMich has a great reputation but will I struggle to find a job? I know it is up to me to hustle to get internships in the summer and build my resume but I guess I am wondering is it worth the risk...I think the undergrad experience at Michigan would be amazing but would I be marketable when I get out if I don't get into Ross? Would I be better off going to another Big Ten school and getting right into their Business school? I am getting way ahead of myself...that is what I do...any input from an Econ major or someone with a good perspective...

omg, do u have the rest of ur life planned out too?

it’s a legitimate concern. I know someone chose penn state over michigan for this exact same reason

No it’s a pretty stupid reason. Unless you for sure want to do Investment Banking or buy-side finance, then going to LSA won’t hurt you that much. Otherwise as long as you get good grades you’ll be fine. It seems like you would be better off with a Umich degree than a penn state business degree.

It’s not impossible to get into Investment Banking from LSA, but it’s much tougher. Giants92 pulled it off though (he was econ + financial math). Hell Bearcats got an even better job than IB and he was an engineer (IOE).

Your job prospects will be fine coming from Umich. For strategy consulting, most top firms recruit throughout Michigan.

Trust me you don’t have to major in business to get a great business job. This is evidenced by the fact that most top schools don’t even have an undergraduate business program. The main advantage of Ross is on campus recruiting. So if you want to apply to companies that don’t actively recruit at Michigan, than you’ll be on the same playing field as Ross kids.

Unless that kid was instate for Penn State or just really LOVED Penn state, that doesn’t seem like a smart thing to do. Penn State is not currently a target for IB (though I’m sure a few firms do recruit from there).

Thank you Ark. Just trying to do my due diligence on each school.
