what if...

here's a question, please. i wanna know If we are deferred or rejected by harvard EA(the worst thing that could happen huh...) will it hurt our chance of applying for harvard RD???---just wondering, thanks.

if you are deferred EA, you might actually have a better chance. Senior grades and interest count a lot though. If you are rejected, you are automatically disqualified from the regular pool and may not apply until the next fall. Admit = accepted to c/o 2011, Defer = not sure about admission to c/o 2011, Reject = denied for c/o 2011. It can never hurt to show early interest.

My recollection--stated somewhere here on the boards, so certainly not necessarily perfectly true--is that Harvard only rejects about 5% of EA applicants, leaving 95% of those not accepted to be deferred to regular. This seemed a little bit extreme, and it might have been posted by a Yale troll; I don't really know. Still, a comforting figure for anyone applying early to Harvard if it's true.

addendum: n.b. this doesn't seem to have been reflected in the 2010 EA decisions thread precisely, so, no idea.

<a href="http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2005/12.15/01-early.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2005/12.15/01-early.html</a></p>

Out of 3872 early applicants last year, about 800 were accepted, 2828 were deferred, and 149 were rejected. So, clearly, you almost certainly don't have to worry about rejection.
