I don't get into medical school?
I really want to be a doctor. If I don't make it to medical school I will be sorely disappointed with my dreams crushed. But I suppose eventually I would have to move on in life and look at my options. If I major in biology/biochemistry/chemistry, would I have anything else to do beside work in a lab?

Anyone have any suggestions for potential majors that would be keep me in a scientific field yet not trapped in a lab ALL day?

Other than biomedical engineering....

--Thanks

You could be a school teacher, earn a PhD, or work for the gov't like CIA, FBI, police.

if your determined to get into medical school, don't already start thinking of other options. If you don't get in first try, do a post-bacc, reapply to both MD and DO schools, and as a last resort if you are still determined that you want to be a doctor consider Caribbean schools. Though, with the Carribean it's riskier as you will have to work much harder to be competitive, and most likely will end up being a primary care doctor in a US residency, but nonetheless you'll be a physician.

Thanks, but no one seemed to agree on anything. They all said international was bad, and DO was bad (although I don't know what that is...haha lame I know). General consensus was not to worry. I just want to explore options. However it did set my mind churning.

"I'm premed myself. Not to sound too conceited, but I haven't thought too much about this because I can't imagine not getting into ANY med school.

I suppose you can do grad school and then apply to med school again. Or you can start working somewhere and retake the MCATs and reapply to med school again somewhere down the line. Personally, I think that anyone with a decent work ethic and enough diligence can get into med school (it just may not be right out of college)."-norcalguy (2004)

My more optimistic days. hehe

True true. I was like that at one point...last week...haha and then someone said, well if I don't get into medical school....and there it went.

Hmm so anyone know anything about DO schools?
And seriously what is wrong with foreign graduate programs. I know that there are places in Pakistan/India that are amazing...so....

DO programs are a good option. Overseas ones are not. The numbers listed in "Why Go to a better med school" speak for themselves.
