What Impacted Biology means for you.

I'm sure you've all heard that UCSD is going to admit a small number of students into the biology major based on grades in a few screening courses. Overall, I haven't seen cut throat competition in these classes (organic chemistry, gen. bio., gen. chem, etc). But I think that is going to change in the coming year. I think those of you in next year's class are going to face extremely stiff competition, high curves, etc.. Why?
Because on the one hand the next year's group of biology majors are the best and the brightest, and on the other there's a whole group of people coming here who want into biology and will do anything to get into it. Yes, I am trying to scare you.
What do you think?

it may be a bit more competitive but i don’t there will be a huge difference because the first 2 years are all general classes and biology majors aren’t the only ones taking them, for example everyone in revelle has to take the calculus series, physical sciences (chem and physics), and biology. So a lot of Non-bio majors who aren’t planning on majoring in biology will be taking the same classes. So it shouldn’t be super cut-throat. But the upper division classes will be harder since only the best students can take them.

Does this apply to people trying to switch majors into biology or the newly admitted who have been accepted as biology majors?
