Where we live we have 6 colleges less than 10 miles from our house. Only one has a music school, it’s an all girls college, so fortunately that wasn’t gonna work out.

I’m feeling better about son going long distance (+1200 miles) to UNT after returning from freshman and concurrent parent orientation today. Got to see his room at Bruce Hall, and it is nicer than I thought it would be. A couple pluses for Bruce is that it is right across the street from the Music Bldg, and it does have a cafeteria, which is not the case for some of the dorms. The communal bathroom is actually a plus in my eyes too, since at least I know the bathroom will be cleaned regularly, lol. We will be taking his two trombones, which can be stored upright in his closet, and his keyboard, which can fit under his bed. It may be a little scant on storage for clothing. There is one big dresser which I guess his roommate and he are supposed to split up. Guess I will be calling housing to find out if one shared dresser is the way it’s supposed to be!

It seems a mini-frig and microwave are customary for them to have in their room, and one good reason to contact roommate is to make sure that they don’t both bring those items, preferably they should split it up, i.e., one bring the frig and the other the microwave. In any case, I would not be buying one at home and carting it to UNT, I’ll buy it after we get there.

It certainly is more challenging moving a kid in from a distance, but looking more doable now!
