What is 2nd most important to you?

Since for most of us, academics is the number 1 factor in where we're applying, what's number two for you?(academics includes grad/professional school placement, etc) For me, location is a biggie. It's why i cut out several schools, they were just too far away. Not that I want to live at home or anything, but I don't want to be too far away either.

1 academic strength in major

2 overall prestige

3 location (near home, not urban)

4 price

5 campus culture (not much partying, an intellectual campus, t-shirts and jeans)

whats second most important to me is picturing myself at that school, there are some schools (after doing some research and talking to people) I just go no way am I ever going there, and there are some that I just absolutely fall in love with. its really based on intuition I guess since I dont have the chance to visit.

1 I want it to make me feel at home

2 I want it to have mostly friendly students

3 Accessible Professors

4 Fun!!!!! (stuff to do on any given night and not a lot of nerdy kids who study all day and night)

5 Price/Academics (lets be serious these days any of the top 150 schools will get you a great education)

and oh yeah in case anybody is wondering i just described both ohio university and the university of dayton .... oh yea

2 Financial Aid!

1 academic strength/good program for my major

2 location, location, location (the schools I'm applying to are in LA, DC, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia and NYC)

3 overall high quality institution

4 cost/merit aid

For my daughter, the colleges had to have ALL THREE of these criteria...no preference...ALL...

Warm weather climate
Being able to play oboe/English Horn without majoring in music
And...strong sciences (possible engineering)

Any school that didn't meet ALL of these criteria was dropped from consideration.

1 Location

2 Academics

3 Distribution requirements or no distribution requirements and no core

4 Diversity/Interaction with other groups

5 Being able to pursue acting and dance, whether it is a major or a student organization
