I've been admitted to both schools but i'd still not sure where my best choice is. I'm not very familiar with the reputations or anything really, being that I'm from California and just moved here about 2 years ago. Please help?? thanks :)

Unfortunately, neither of those schools has a strong national reputation for engineering. For example, US News & World Report doesn’t rank either of them in the top 75 nationally for engineering.

But they’re both known as decent overall schools in the region, especially Tech, although not necessarily for engineering. And Tech is even known outside the region to a slight degree.

You didn’t get into A&M or UT (both rank in the top 20 nationally for engineering)?

Where else did you apply?

Tech has an excellent reputation in the region for most engineering disciplines. Especially Petroleum Engineering, ME, and EE.

i would go 2 tech, and i dont think you have to go to Ut austin or a and m to get a good job, its all about who you connect with while your in college. and i would suggest going to grad school after u get your BA or BS

Texas Tech has a really good reputation in the region for engineering. Its not nationally ranked like UT or A&M but their are always tons of companies coming to Tech to hire students every semester. Its a really great program.

Not sure about UTA. I know they have a good architecture program but not sure about engineering.

go to TECH, its better than UTA the only thing that sucks is it far, but you will be able to get a job

If they had a really good reputation, they would be nationally ranked like A&M and UT.

Most of the engineering jobs in Texas are going to be around Dallas and Houston, so there’s no regional advantage of going into Tech engineering compared to UT or A&M.

The way I see it, if Tech engineering takes almost as much hard work and dedication as UT or A&M, you’re better off going to one of the latter schools.

and Tech does have a good reputation in Texas @Rolling alot of things go into consideration when USNR ranks schools.

their is no advantage going to UT or A&M for engineering aswell, you will get a job as an engineer no matter what school you come from.

GO to TeCH and do good

UT and A&M are ranked high for alot of reasons
and Tech does have a good reputation in the region, Rawls is rising in the ranks each year, and will easily crack TOp 20 in 3-4 years

i think you mean do well

As a 51 year old hiring professional (and tech grad) … I would say based only on job opportunities, reputation and quality of education …TECH by far… if you have to stay in metroplex, uta is a decen choice.

TECH has a good REGIONAL name,UT --especially and A&M are better national rep --and even as a TECH grad deservedly so … but TECH want limit your future…past ATT and current GM CEO is a TECH grad

I suggest, go to tech for petroleum , or if anything related to aero or mechanical, go to ut arlington.
Personally I hate Ut Arlington college life and tech’s location.
And if u wanna transfer to Ut Austin in future, probably more of the Ut credits will be same, and if u plan Texas a & m, either is fine.
I recommend transferring to A&M or UT Austin in future
And if u like the Dallas, Arlington or fort worth area, give UT Dallas a try. Similar to UT Arlington.
And why the heck are u transferring from California Man!!!..
I would try remain there, more engineering opportunities, and u r gonna hate Texas climate.
Definitely Tech. I’ve been admitted to both aswell but UTA has always been more of a backup. That’s the way most people from North Texas see UTA, as more of a backup.
UT Dallas location and college life (Division III athletics included) are worse than UT Arlington @Stiffler .
It’s not like California has get Petroleum engineering programs.
Wreckem Tech!
