If you look closely at detailed political maps, there are no blue states or red states. There are blue cities and red rural areas in every state. The difference is that the suburbs are generally Dem in blue states, and the suburbs are Repub in red states. That is why Austin and Houston are controlled by Dems, but the Houston and Dallas suburbs are Republican strongholds.
