Can I talk about a particular ethnic group moving to a nearby town in my state because of domestic problems and talk about the economic/cultural/racial implications?

Or is that not global? How broad does the topic have to be, and does it have to be generic like "nuclear proliferation" or specific like "American assistance with nuclear proliferation in India and affects on relations with Middle East"? Examples anyone? Thanks!

Oh, and obviously this is Essay Two for SSP applicants.

Please...anyone floating around this board...HELP. I have to have a rough draft done by 8 pm! I really wanted to use one of the many papers I've written about Islam/the West but my parents think it's too broad and overused.

It is perfectly fine to use a broad topic, but you do want to have specific facts that show that you actually know what you are talking about.

yup I agree ^^ with knight up there haha

if you want suggestions, I talked about AIDS problem in Africa, and alot of people told me that was overused and broad too, but I actually had a personal connection with that and for the second part what could be done to stop it or to solve the issue, I actually did work to help solve it.

So it's important to be knowledgeable about your topic as well when you write it! =] Hope that helps if you need anything else, feel free to ask =]

If you are going to use a common topic then make sure you try and 1) show a personal attachment and/or 2) use specific information. I did not choose a common topic, mine was on the future of NATO and transatlantic relations.
