Hey guys, I was wondering what school would suit me. I am an Indian and a junior at a very competitive HS in IL.

GPA at the end of Junior Year:
Weighted: 4.125
Unweighted: 3.8

The reason for the low GPA is that I was kind of a slacker freshman year (3.4).

Any how....

Class Rank: Top 15%
ACT: 35
SAT: 800-Math 720-CR 730-W
APs: Human Geography - 4, will be taking Computer Science and Physics B in May

Clubs:
Debate(9-12) - Research Coordinator next Year
FBLA(10 -12) - VP next year
NHS - Next year
Started Investment Club this year - President

Projected Senior Year Schedule:

AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
Adv Comp Tech (Honors) and Philosophy Honors
AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics
AP Stats
AP Government
AP Themes

Thanks for the help guys.

Do you have a preference in terms of location, campus atmosphere etc...?

Brown University
Carnegie Mellon University
Cornell University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (doesn't count Freshman grades)
Princeton University (doesn't count Freshman grades)
Rice University
Stanford University (doesn't count Freshman grades)
University of California-Berkeley
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (doesn't count Freshman grades)
University of Texas-Austin
University of Washington
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Thanks for the speedy response :) As long as it's in the US I don't really have a location preference.

What do you think are my chances at the following for CE?

Carnegie Mellon
MIT
Stanford
Berkeley
Illinois(hopefully instate would be helpful)
Michigan
UVA

Also what would you say are some safeties for me?

I think Illinois is a safety for you and you will probably get a full ride there. I think Michigan is a very safe match for you and again, you will probably get a hefty scholarship. Apply as early as possible to those two schools. If you complete your applications to those two by early September, you will probably be sitting on a couple of acceptance by late October/early November.

Cal (keep an eye on their application deadline, it is sometime late November) and UVa are tough on out-of-staters, but you have a good shot anyway. I'd say those two are safe matches for you. CMU is also a safe match.

You don't have any tough matches, so you may want to check out Cornell, Rice or Brown.

MIT and Stanford are your reaches, but since they do not look at Freshman grades, you have a shot. Also check out Princeton, they are very good in CS and Engineering.

I thought that you could only apply early to one college? I planned on applying early to MIT. Are you saying that I can apply to the following in September? Illinois, Michigan, Cal, UVA, CMU, Cornell, MIT, and Stanford

Or can I only apply early to MIT and dependent upon if I get accepted or not apply to the others?

Illinois and Michigan are rolling admission. You can apply at any time without it being considered either Early Action or Early Decision.

Ah so then come September I can apply to UOI, UMich and MIT right?

That's right. Michigan and UOI don't have ED/EA, they have rolling admissions. You are allowed to apply to them at the same time as you apply ED/EA to another university.

What are some other good colleges for CE that offer rolling admissions?
