Hey, I recently took the ACT and to make it appear as I'm not boasting (because that's not what I'm trying to do here) I'm NOT going to post what I got.

Anyways, I was wonderng if anyone knew what a GOOD score is for the ivies and schools such as Stanford.

You don't have to go on saying 36 36 36 36! Everyone knows 36 is the best!

But I was wondering if anyone knew what the... cutoff would be for these schools.

Also, are some sections weighted more than others? Do colleges look more carefully at mathematics and reading than they do writing?

Thank you for your opinions!

it all depends where you are trying to go. if you are trying to get into an average school a 22+ is fine. for better schools i would recommend a 27+ and for ivies/most competitive schools a 31+ is needed.

So I’m getting 31+ and 34+

Are some sections more important than others?

What’s a competitive score for Ivies?

If you have a bad SAT score (approx 2100) and a good ACT score (around 34) would schools only look at your ACT?

A 34 is at the very end of the middle 50% range for most top schools. So I’d say 34+.

31 puts you in the middle 50%, but it’s a bit low if you’re an unhooked applicant.

Thanks xavier!
Can anyone state whether some sections are more important than others?
Thank you if you do!

bump 10 char

none are bad. when you are hitting these high numbers it honestly does not matter. these ivies are looking for something special. you NEED NEED NEED to stand out. you must have something different about you and write a good essay to stand out. i saw one girl get a 2310 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT (who also graduated valedictorian) get rejected from Yale, Princeton, and Harvard. Another person i know had a 2290 on the SAT and a 32 on the ACT and was rejected from Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and Brown (he also graduated saluatorian). then the kid with the 2270 and the girl with the 2110 both got into these ivies leagues. once you break 31 and 700 in each section it’s all luck from there. these ivies have smart kids they want what they don’t have so tell them why you’re different.

Of course, scores are not the deciding factor, but as with anything, the higher, the better. Schools, as much as they don’t like to say it, want to report high test averages/ranges.

Thank you ovo! =]
Do you think it would hurt someone to score highly in 3 sections and poorly in one?
(high 30s in 3 sections and low 30/high 20 in the last)

^ I think you’ll be fine. Depends on what section it is though, because I believe English and Math are looked at the most.

Hmm…I scored a 32, with a 33 superscore. I’m a URM but besides that I am unhooked. All of my subjects increased except for English…so I’m sure if I retook and studied, I could get a 33-34. Retake for 3rd time or leave as is?
