Can anybody tell me what a hook is?
I find the terminology in many posts, but do not know what it means.

like, athletic, legacy, small country, USAMO/IMO, music or something else that is unique

...and that will set you apart from the rest of the applicant pool. It's basically a factor in your application that will help you get admitted.

Oh ..thank you!!

URS (Under represented state)
URM (Under represented minorities eg. African Americans and Hispanics)

What does that mean?

and do most or all applicants who get into the ivies have a hook?

a curved or angular piece of metal or other hard substance for catching, pulling, holding, or suspending something.

lol.......

usually made of annealed steel, which is first super heated and then quenched in ice cold water, which makes it harder. The stel usually has high carbon content, while impurities are in the range of 4% while carbon is int he range of 1%.

^^ Please work on improving your spelling and grammar, not to be harsh or anything (although my comments may come across that way). It's difficult to understand what you're saying.

It is something that will make you stand out from the other applicants. If you come from a country that is underrepresented like Ireland and Paraguay, you play a musical instrument and the college band requires some one that palys it, You are a great soccer, volleyball etc... player and etc...
