In "What are my chances" threads what does "legacy" refer to?

It means that a close relative (mom, dad, grandfather, etc) attended the university.

I believe that a “legacy” is also undergraduate. Not graduate school. I could be wrong.

can i say that I have a legacy status if my first cousin is attending a university i would like to go to?
this may be a long shot…

yes you can.
it won’t help you get in per se because of family connections…but when you are asked why you want to attend that university, you may say that you are very closer with your first cousin and that he/she has told you a lot about it, and is part of the reason why you want to go there
