on one part of the umd app it asks for an alternate major only if you in a LEP, what is a limited enrollment program?

They’re impacted majors. A bunch of people want to do them but they can’t just allow everybody to do so because then the class sizes would be enormous and bring down the quality of the programs.

A lot of the LEPs just require that you take certain classes and if you meet the grade requirements you’re in. Some, like business and architecture, also require a full-out application complete with an essay, letters of recommendation, etc.

So material sciences would be a limited enrollment program? So what if i don’t get in, and get my alternate major, would i still be able to transfer in later?

Yes. You’ll have to complete: Freshman English (unless you get SAT/AP credit for it), Calc II, Physics I (PHYS161), Chem II, and a CORE course. Need a minimum of a 2.0 in each class and an overall GPA of 3.0.

Doesn’t seem like you need to fill out an application, unlike us poor prospective business majors :p
