They're not military right? Aren't they under the department of commerce?

short and sweet

google it

Some research would begin at usmma.edu.

As I understand it (and I am pretty new at this), there are a lot of options compared to those other academies: :)
USMA graduate -> Army, or
USAFA graduate -> Air Force, or
USNA graduate -> Navy or Marines, or
USCGA graduate -> Coastie, or
USMMA graduate -> Army, or Air Force, or Navy, or Marine, or Coastie (surprised), or NOAA (chase hurricanes), or more, or
Maritime Industry.

Talk about options!
(PS. ProudDad is right, but Department of Transportation is factiod)

if you google it

the first listing is usmma kings point site

it tells most everything

Their Mother is a mermaid, their father the devil himself according to the written legend that is too long to post here & alittle risqué as well. USMMA is the only service academy where its graduates have the option to go into any branch of service to our country including a few other government agencies. It is the only service academy where its Midshipmen have served in every war. The Mids are sworn into the US Naval Reserve/Merchant Marine Reserve while at the academy. The ceremony takes place during Acceptance Day/Parents Week-end.

Mister do have a look at the Academy's website & then feel free to ask more questions to everyone here. Be sure to have a good look at "Sea Year".

Do the Mids at USMMA get paid while they are going to school in Kings Point?

(I know they do when they are at sea, but I can't get confirmation about pay while at school, like the other 4 academies).

No pay during school

Only while at sea.

But it appears to me that the education, experience and credentials gained through 4 years at USMMA are of great value to the cadet

Opportunities after graduation are many
