What is a Official transcript ?

My counselor just sent me a message asking it. I’m an international student and this is the first time she is using the common app. After a brief research, I found that the transcript is basically the grades I received during my High school. But what about the recommendation letter? where she uploads it?

An official transcript is one that comes from the school, that authenticates your classes, grades, etc.

@jym626 Basically the grades? And where she uploads the recommendation? is the recommendation considered a transcript ?

No, the recommendation is a letter of recommendation, or they might ask for a counselor report. The transcript is the academic record.

No. Transcripts will show what courses you have taken and the grades/marks you have received. Official transcripts will usually bear a seal that indicates that it is legitimate and from that school.

@jym626 @MITer94 thanks! Now I’ll try to figure out where to upload the recommendation hehe

A letter of recommendation is opinion— that the student will be a strong addition to the student body.

An official transcript is fact: it’s a statement of the student’s coursework and grades. It’s “official” because it’s sent directly from the school.

@bjkmom Thanks!
Anyone know if in the Counselor profile, school information is about the school where my counselor graduated?

The school information is about the school you are attending. Nobody cares where your counselor went to school

Well, the counselor probably cares 8->

Most people don’t send a letter of recommendation unless the university has requested it.

Don’t send anything that they don’t want.

Following instructions is very important in the application process.

The official transcript is usually a one-sided page of courses, listed by date and grade in school and grades by year semester or quarter with credits given.

There are no comments other than +or - or “withdrawal”. It is usually “sealed” with the school’s stamp or seal.

They may be asking for a counselor report, not a letter of recommendation. It’s a little 11th hour…

@jym626 hahahaha your comment made my day.
