i've never done phone interviews; any tips?

I had one last year. It was a little weird for me at first because without being able to see their facial expressions I kind of felt like I was flying blind with no idea how they were responding to what I was saying, but at least for mine it warmed up pretty quick and it was just like any other interview. I was on a conference call with a couple of different people.

It was annoying because I was living in a dorm at the time and could not find a quiet place to go, and I made the mistake of doing the interview in my bath robe and slippers. I didn’t have enough adrenaline going to counteract my nerves that way! But once it started it wasn’t bad anymore.

lol bathrobe.

thank you!

I had one last Wednesday.

I suggest you make sure NO ONE interrupts your conversation. In the middle of my interview, my host sister started knocking, actually pounding, on the front door. It caught me completely off guard and I kind of got flustered by it. So, take all precautionary measures so that doesnt happen to you.

The fact that the person cant see you can benefit you. Prepare notes: questions you want to ask, things you want to mention about yourself and etc. I had a copy of what I like about the college. It helped.

Usually you can look up your interviewer online. Look at his/her picture during the interview, itll help in reminding you that you are not talking to yourself. During my interview, the interviewer would ask me a question and then let me answer. She wouldnt comment or anything so I rambled.

Dress comfortably. Seriously. I was FREEZING during my interview and that caused my voice to tremor and I could barely concentrate. So, regardless of what you wear, make sure it doesnt distract you.

Thats all I can think of right now, hope I helped. (Note that this is just from my personal experience. Each interview will go differently.)
