Okay, I just checked the TritonLink and I got accepted to Muir College (hope that’s a good college) with a pre-major in visual arts media with computer emphasis. Maybe I’m dumb, but what is a pre-major? Does that mean I’m not fully accepted?

hmmm i think u have to wait three quarters before they initiate you into the major. You have to satisfy some prequisites first and maintain a certain gpa.

You will have to complete certain classes with a required GPA to be admitted into you desired major. Check out the on-line catalog to find out what those requirements are.

Can I switch my major to something that is not a "pre-major"?

Muir is the college everyone wants to be in. It is fun and social. I would contact the university to see about switching majors. Just curious, but why does the status of pre-admittance disturb you?

Well, if it means I'm still in UCSD, I'm fine with it. But if I don't complete the prerequistes freshman year, what will happen?

You are in :) You might not be allowed to enroll in your chosen major, and be required to select another. That would not be the end of the world. Find out what the requirements are so that you know exactly what you need to do. If you are accepted into UCSD I am confident you will be able to meet the requirements. Relax and enjoy your success!

Thanks collegemom16. Now I don't have to worry. But I still don't know how I got in considering my not so impressive transcript.

The following majors admit freshmen to pre-major status only: bioengineering: premedical, engineering physics, human development, ICAM-visual arts, ICAM-music, literature/writing, math-computer science, visual arts-media (computing emphasis).

As a pre-major, you must satisfy all prerequisites before admission to the major. The set of conditions, determined on a department-by-department basis, and approved by the San Diego Committee on Educational Policy, is explained in detail under the department listing in this catalog.

Other departments may be approved to offer pre-majors by the Committee on Educational Policy subsequent to this publication. Please refer to Major Fields of Study in the introduction to the catalog.
