For financial aid purposes many private colleges use a form called the CSS Profile. It’s like the FAFSA, but goes into more depth asking about income, assets, non-custodial parents, home values, etc. Schools that want you to submit the CSS Profile also will want the FAFSA.

The CSS Profile, by the way, is a creation of the CollegeBoard. Schools can opt to require it or not. Very often schools with a lot of institutional financial aid to grant will require it. Public universities generally do not. There are exceptions.

Thanks so much 'rentof2. I am new to all of this.

Do you mean a school profile??? That is a description of your high school included with your transcripts which says things like Washington H.S. is located in Smithville, AK, it has 1000 students, 15% of students getting a free lunch, 80% graduate in 4 years etc. Is this what you mean?
rent is also correct there is a financial profile as well which families fill out for some colleges.

uvtw9, there is so much lingo when you first wade into all this! It gets clearer bit by bit. College Confidential is such a great resource for getting a grip on it all. :)
