What is a short major?

What are some short majors?
I am asking this because I am thinking about double majoring since I will be finishing my first major by the end of my third year, which means I will have a whole other year.
I am willing to take summer classes.

Thanks!

Business? I think you can finish that in two. I think Film can be finished in one. I’m sure there’s more, but it would be really small majors. I might end up in the same scenario, but I’m not sure I might go for a double major. I would just be spending another year taking ******** classes for a somewhat useless double major. Yeah, I’ll have fun and college is probably one of the best times of your life, but not sure if that’s worth another 25-30k

ECON major or any social science major.

Keep in mind the social science school has its own mini [set of general ed](<a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>UCI General Catalogue Archives). I’m not sure how much of it overlaps with your additional social science major.

Whats your current major? If you’re eng/physical science, chemistry is pretty easy to add on. For MechE, I think Mat Sci is easy to add.

depends on your current major. With that said, Poli Sci is only 11 classes…

A “useful” major like Econ is
Math 4
Econ15ab
econ 100abc or Econ 105abc
Econ 122a
7 Random econ classes…

14 classes if I’m not mistaken. It can actually be knocked out in one year with proper planning.

Why double major just so you can put down that you double majored? Major in something you want to study and not because it looks good.

You gotta be very careful to do that econ major in 1 year. Usually the 100-series is taken in session and is required pre-reqs for the random 7 upper division econ class.

Econ is pretty short

It’s best to double major within your own school. If you do another major in a different school, not only do you have to fulfill their major requirements, but also the SCHOOL requirements.

Like many have already stated, it’s best to double major within your own school if possible, or major in a related field so prereqs overlap. Many double majors only require a certain number of classes to minor or major in. Others such as econ or business econ require series, meaning 100A, 100B, 100C or 122A, 122B, etc. that must be taken one at a time, in sequence. So that may be a little rough on your schedule.

It also depends on your interests. Are you looking for something easy to boost your gpa? Something interesting? Something that will help you land a job, or make your resume look nicer? If you can, I would suggest minoring in ICS, CS, or Stats.

As someone in the statistics minor…
