<p>I've heard the term "target school" used quite often, especially while referring to ibanking. So what exactly is this? Ivy League schools? Top 20? Top 50? Or does it range depending on the recruiters and the region they recruit in?</p>

<p>I think there are different levels of targets. </p>
<p>The Uber-targets are Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Wharton.</p>
<p>Also-targets would be the rest of the ivies (including Penn CAS), MIT, Stanford, top 3 LACs, a handful of the other top ranked private schools, and excellent business schools at top publics.</p>
<p>Regional-targets are exactly what their name suggests -- well recruited in their given region but nobody cares in the rest of the country/world. There are lots of these.</p>
<p>This should give a general sense of what's going on but everyone's opinion is a bit different, especially as you move down the list. Still, hardly anyone will dispute the top 4.</p>

<p>Yeah, some people define "target" as IB feeders such as HYPSW. Others define target as any school which has IB recruitment. Others use scales of "targetness" to compare IB placement between schools that have IB recruitment. Go with whichever one tickles your fancy.</p>
<p>Another way you can define target is if IB firms recruits on campus, that is they do the big presentations, campus interviews and resume drops etc... the IB targets schools are where the Bulge Bracket recruits most heavily...</p>
