Many boarding schools and people on CC talk about having a "unique" talent to get in a boarding school that is rare but not useless. What exactly, is a "unique" talent. Is playing an oboe a "unique" talent? Is juggling a "unique" talent? What is one of your "unique" talents or something that you consider unique?

Taxidermy. 10chars

Oboe is probably pretty common. Take something like African drumming, though, and I bet they’d consider that fairly unique. Just use your brain - what activities are not very common?

what if its something you do as a hobby, because your school doesn’t offer it? will it still be valid?

Yeah, def. I doubt many schools offer taxidermy, but it is super unique.

Archery and curling, both olympic sports.

thanks! 10char

Curling is amazing!!! I love it for some odd reason. I maintain that you should tryout for varsity taxidermy.

Do it because you love it, don’t just to it to get into school.

i know that. but im curious to wonder what people think is a unique talent and checking some stuff out. since im in a generally middle class area, where people think that a typical sport is football and soccer, and a unique talent would be playing an instrument or ballet.

Playing an instrument or doing ballet is downright common - especially at boarding schools. It depends on the instrument, I guess, though…

riflery, that’s what I do, it’s super uncommon =D

Well, if you are good at it it is a whole different thing. I’ve played at local halls, solo, (though it is no Carnegie Hall) but it still shows passion. Instruments will just add a few perks if you do your school orchestra and are in the middle somewhere.

Sports? Unless you get onto JV or Varsity it means you can do sports and other things at the same time, ie. not a nerd.

Guns are scary =(

^I suck at riflery so badly. If I come to Exeter you’d have to teach me! I am a little better at archery… Just a little, meaning I still suck.

shoots you from 100yrds away for saying that

No, you need to come to Andover and leave the nerdy Exeter guys alone =)

And, istoleyournose, gunmen are even scarier =(

Have fun going to my dear GW’s school… =)

i guess the subject of boarding schools leaves people with strong emotions…

Huh? (10 char)
