I am an Asian-American male. In my discussions with friends and professors, I have gotten several definitions for what URM means for law school admissions. Does anyone know for sure what a URM is for law school?

African-American, Mexican-American, and Native American, I believe.

It certainly doesn’t include Asian-Americans.

you applied to college, so you must know that, if anything, Asians are an ORM.

not sure about law school but when i’ve applied to different stuff i’ve come across questions such as “are you mexican-american” which makes me seem they were targeting…

kwu has supplied the definition with which I’m most familiar.

Puerto Ricans are also URMs at most law schools.

Also, law schools want a diverse set of majors. Thus, if they don’t have enough folks taking intellectual property, they might admit more science types. If they want more folks taking tax law, they might admit more accounting types. The problem is that from year to year, you really don’t know if there will be a dearth of a particular major.
