How hard are the classes in the AEM school? Is there much of a social life for AEM students? I'm looking at applying next year, and quite honestly, those two questions will be very important. I hear the stereotype that kids at Ivy League schools do nothing but study (during the week at least). I'd like to have some extra free time during the week as well.

Also for anyone who may know, how do you get in state tuition if when you apply you are an out of stater. Can you rent and apartment somewhere in New York and get in state tuition your final 2 years possibly? Anyone done it? Its a 15k difference, so its definitely worth it.

One of my friends actually bought a house in Collegetown and after a certain amount of time, she claimed residence and now pays in-state tuition. There are rules concerning length of residence but those aren't hard to find out.

I'm going to get flak for this, but from what I've seen AEM isn't too much work. I know a couple of people in AEM and they usually drink and party a lot. Part of that is the bitter engineer in me speaking. There's an AEM major that posts here and he'll probably give you a better answer.
