What is an 88?

My school uses averages...is that going to be a problem? what gpa is that approx? I think a range would make more sense, no?

It won't be a problem. For my school an 88 would be an B+.

NO! at Queen's, 88 is A+ i think
congrads :D, 88 is awesome! but how do you have avg already? don't you have full year courses?

no new im asking hypothetically...an 88 here is an A i believe, A+ is 90+, which i believe is the same as UofT...how are u doin?

If you convert directly, an 88 would be a 3.52.

Your best bet is to look at the ranges the colleges your applying to has as well. I'm sure youll find it on their website. This would be easier if you told us which college your at. Queen's?

UofT is okay :D, just gearing up for transfer :D

jack - im trying to go to the states and most american schools dont have average ranges simply because there arent many schools that use averages in the states

I know, I meant that you should look at the school's ranges, not averages. I'm pretty sure you can find stuff like that for any college. If you want, give me a list of a couple of schools your looking into and I'll try to help out. However, it all boils down to how hard your school is and how widely theyre rigourussness (sp? :P) is known in America. Perhaps the answer is simple...if it's an A at your school, thats how the US colleges will look at it

most of the schools im looking at have gpa ranges from 3.3-3.6

my avg in teh canadian system is a B+ or 78, thats why i asked ppl here what an 88 would be because it is essentially the same. The highest avg in most my classes (500+) is between 85-87 so its not like theyre just handing out As in Canada because it goes down to 80 (as opposed to 90). 90s are nearly impossible to get for papers or anything subjective...my political science marking outline says any paper above 86 should be "of the quality and substance" of an academic journal (ie they will refer it to an academic journal)

anyways, a B+ usually works out to a 3.33 but the direct division (.88 x 4) is 3.52...im wondering how colleges will view my 78, B+ avg which is roughly top 15% in my faculty...its kind of like comparing apples to oranges (versus american system/ american gpa) isnt it?
