What is an IDOC?

I thought all my fin aid apps are over already. I even checked with all the places I am applying and they told me there are no more forms for me to fill. Today I receive an email frm CB informing me bout IDOC?? What is IDOC got to do with financial aid?

The ID number CB gv me with my personal info dont match in log in site. None of the colleges and scholarship programs I applied mentioned IDOC. Is this a mistake? The email does not mention any college name so I figure this is a mistake.
But I still want to know wht is IDOC and wht is the purpose of IDOC?

IDOC is a integrated veriification system typically used by private schools to verify the information you provided on your FAFSA and Profile. It's basically the "backup" to all the information you provided on the online forms.

The big thing they want is copies of your tax returns, although you there are other hoops you have to jump through. By using IDOC, you only send one packet of information which is distributed to the schools rather than having to individually send information to each school. But some schools don't use IDOC and want you to indepedently send them things like tax returns. You've got to go through all the schools you're applying to and confirm exactly what they want/need and how they intend you to get the info to them.

Bear in mind that the schools to which you've applied that don't subscribe to IDOC will want you to send them hard copies of your and your parents' tax returns.

The majority of colleges will require a copy of the students' federal tax return and supporting documents (i.e. W-2's, 1099's, etc.) They will require the same of the parents if the student is considered to be a dependent student. Instead of hiring additional employees during this busy time of the year just to take in these documents, they will hire the College Board to handle the collection of the tax forms in a process called IDOC. They send you a cover page electronically, you will in-turn, print out the cover page, follow the instructions to include bubble in on the cover page what you are including in regards to your federal tax return, as it pertains to your particular situation and then follow the instructions on the proper procedure to submit those returns. The cover page will list which or your selected schools are requesting this action using IDOC.

The key to tax returns is do NOT send them to any schools unless they specifically ask for your taxes because there are some schools whom may not even ask for them and by sending them, you may be surrendering information that they may not even ask about, causing you to possibly lose out in aid as a result.
