What is AP like?

What I am saying is that modern europe would have never become modern for atleast another 2 centuries if it wasn't for the Jews spreading the Arabic technology throughout Europe before 1492.

I think two centuries is an exaggeration.

damn those are expensive!

I have another question, can schools restrict you from self studying for any reason? Or do I have the option regardless of high school intereference?

Before the Renaissance, the European states were far behind Asian and Middle Eastern societies. They were developing advanced mathematics (algebra), astronomy, medicine, and gunpowder, for example, while the West was stagnating. Then, of course, the situation was reversed (due to a number of factors), and Europe pulled decisively ahead. A-san has an accurate point about their contributions to society, but I would also make the point that Europe has had a much more lasting and important impact on world organization and the international system.

Well said.

I dont think so. Christian vs Muslim discrimination and racism carried on for centuries after 1492, therefore if anything I dont think Christians would have had much to do with Muslim technologies therefore would have to establish what they can with whatever they can get from Muslims. The Jews at the time was the bridge between the two very different and often hateful people.

College textbooks are always very expensive, alas. But you can probably find them for less used.

Your school can refuse to administer the AP exams to you (possible, but unlikely). If so, then you'll have to go to with another registered test center nearby (like another school, perhaps) which can be a hassle. But no, they can't formally prevent you from self-studying.

My school, in fact, was very cooperative; they even had a system setup to make it easy for kids that self-studied a subject to register for and take the test.

What I meant was that Europeans would've been able to replicate the technology within a much shorter time-span than two centuries, once the political and economic system had been sufficiently developed (as it was by the 15th century).

What about the getting a grade for my overall High School GPA? My main reason to get into AP is not really to get college credits; basically to get a better GPA and to get a good solid preparation for the majors I might potentially take. So can they refuse to put by AP test grade as part of my school grade average... or something like that?

A self-studied AP is almost never factored into your GPA. You can submit your scores on the exams to the colleges of your choice, however, to show that you undertook a rigorous program of independent study and did well at it.

General Rak: are you some sort of political agitator or something? not in a horrible/bad way, but whenever you post, the thread gets completely off topic and turns to politics. (i.e. some kind of political discussion, whether it is renaissance-crusades or bush)...

now i debate and like that kind of discussion...but it would do well to stay on topic.

I just enjoy politics.

Besides, this thread has remained on topic as well (just a split personality ;)).

yeah, I find it ok, I like politics myself (I hope when you say Bush you mean pro-bush...).

Anyways, some good questions answered here. I am going to ask a teacher in school around tuesday to see my possibilities. :)

Thanks.
