What is Auburn like?

I want a school in which I can party in, but it’s not revovled around that. I do not want to go to a school where the people are immature like high school. I want to go to a college where everyone is passionate about learning just as I am.

there is quite a big party scene at Auburn, but you don't have to make it your life. As for everyone being immature, i wouldn't really worry about that.

Lots of people party on the weekend here, but you don't have to do it. I am not a partier and neither are some of my friends, so it's not like it's required. There will always been immature people around, but they are not as numerous as in high school by far. I don't know if alot of people are very passionate about learning, even in college when you're pretty much paying to learn, but I'm sure you could find people that are, but don't expect everyone to be.

is auburn as redneck racist as ive heard? i think HGTR was saying he/she is black and i know auburn had a little... incident at a halloween frat party not long ago.

Auburn can be pretty redneck (it's just how most of Alabama is, really- hunting and fishing are big things) but I haven't seen any racism in the two months I've been here. Maybe I just don't hang out in those circles but the people I know are all nice and have black and Indian friends/acquaintances. I think someone would get beat down if they flat out called someone a racial slur to their face.

as an auburn alum, i can tell you that it is DEFINITELY a racist and totally redneck university... im a white girl from virginia and saw/heard/and witnessed alot of prejudice towards anyone and everyone who was not a closeminded, ultra conservative neo-con. as for a party school, it it fun for 11 weeks out of the year-- the 11 football games. when there is no football, everyone goes home to the middle of no where alabama, and auburn becomes a ghost town.

I'm now a sophomore here at auburn, and I have to say, I guess I just don't run in those circles because I honestly haven't heard any racial stuff go down at all. I think Auburn is too segregated, but it's self-induced and understandable because people tend to flock to what they know. Most of my friends are from out-of-state and/or are really liberal, so I just don't really see anything like that much.

U of Alabama is much better in terms of race relations. Auburn and Ole Miss are schools to stay away from in that regard. Also, the party scene at Auburn is insane. While it is a good school with a great library, most of the students don't care.

about 1/4 of my graduating class will go to auburn, my sister went for awhile and loved it, she especially praised the honors college.
i personally would never go there, but i think there is such a large group of people that you can find a niche, plus the football would ROCK

I don’t think the party scene is insane here. It’s actually quite tame. I’m sure there is a lot going on in the greek circles, but otherwise I really feel that the party scene is below average. I don’t really have a problem with the lack of party scene. I came to school here to get an education and get on with life. I’ve had a great experience here and would do it all over again. The small town feel is wonderful. I don’t really feel that it is a campus of rednecks, although there are a few that stand out occasionally. College is what you make of it. If you want to party join a greek organization for the social life. Otherwise, we should value the fact that the university and party life isn’t a trait of Auburn University.

I think youd be happy at Auburn, everyone I know who goes there loves it. Partying definitely isn’t a requirement. And no, the school is not racist and redneck. Yes you do have those people but they are the exception not the rule.

I am a minority and my heritage is Arabic and I graduated from Auburn. Racism is everywhere, however Auburn is all about “family” so you have to spend time with people and socialize. People at Auburn are far more liberal than Alabama. I read the girl who stated it is very racist and just have to say this again - I’m brown, Muslim and Arabic and I LOVE Auburn - I had the best time of my life but I also played guitar and was in a southern rock band there - nobody ever disrespected me. Again - spend time with people and they will accept you. If you don’t socialize - it’s not the best place for you. War Eagle!
