What is better for IB?

Brown vs Duke (pratt = engineering)?

From what I’ve seen, Duke alums have a heavy presence on Wall Street…but all of my peers at Brown have been able to find IB internships/jobs with ease (and BB FO recruit here too due to it being an Ivy). I’m sure Duke recruiting is amazing as well, but I don’t know much about it.

Both are solid in terms of recruiting. You should select your school based on other factors.

I’m not going to choose a school based on which is ‘better’ for IB.

Brown[ul]
[li]Pros: closer, safer, ivy league, slightly better reputation (?)[/li][li]Cons: crappy weather, hippy/too liberal culture, too much weed, terrible dorms (i’ve been in them)[/ul]
[/li]

Duke[ul]
[li]Pros: better weather, risky, possibly more fun, better facilities/architecture[/li][*]Cons: far away, too fratty[/ul]

either place you go you’ll be fine as long, especially if you get internships before junior year.

at brown make sure you get internships in boston or NY and at duke you can get internships in charlotte or raleigh.

To answer your opinions about Brown:

Pros: closer, [true] safer [eh, you won’t get killed living in Durham for 4 years], ivy league, slightly better reputation [both have good reputations]
Cons: crappy weather, [this year we had record-high weather…not sure if this will be the norm, but you know the deal with changing temperatures!] hippy/too liberal culture [an exaggeration that is mitigated once you are here], too much weed, terrible dorms (i’ve been in them) [where I (have) lived is only a small part of the experience. It’s been mostly the people that make it what it is. And after visiting my friends at other schools, I’ve realized that housing at Brown is not a complete ****-hole like people make it out to be. Relative to other Ivies, however, it is shabby.]

Both Brown and Duke have roughly equal undergraduate reputations. Duke has a thriving independent scene as well if you’re interested in that. The cons for Duke besides distance can easily be changed depending on how you shape your college experience but the crappiness in the Brown dorms will always remain.

You can get internships in the summer in New York coming out of any school, certainly Duke included.
