What is Cal State LA like?

Hi, I am applying to Cal State LA and I was wondering how student life is. I want to study forensic science and this school has a good program for that. Are there a lot of organizations on campus? Is the area around it nice? How far are the closest beaches? Thanks

Just from what I’ve heard expect a large commuter population. That and the fact that the school tends to be overpopulated making registering for classes very difficult and causing it to be hard to graduate in 4 years.

Thank you!!! That doesn’t matter to me as much because it is in a cool city. Do you know how the area is around it?

I’ve heard its in a pretty rough part of the city and most people in the area havent heard of it. My girlfriend is from SoCal so thats where I’m getting my info

I am also applying to Northridge, but they have more impacted programs so who knows. I would really like to be in SoCal

I’d strongly advise you to avoid the Cal States, especially since you are out of state.

Yeah, I am looking at university of Montana and Univ of New Mexico. Not as exciting though!!!

I’d argue that those are much more exciting due to have a more residential college with major sports that would have a better traditional college experience.

I agree!!! I just want these 4 years to fly so I can get a degree and move to California.

California definitley is the perfect area. Smog, high taxes, high cost of living, traffic, etc.

Haha. It’s better than Tennessee. Big obese population, uneducated, and high crime.

Here is how far CSULA is from a beach. You can select different modes of transportation to see how long it takes to get to the beach.

Thank you everyone for the information. As regards to cost, I will be able to afford CSULA. I have plenty of scholarships to get it down around the same price as my state school UT Knoxville
