Hey guys, I'm an incoming freshman and I just wanted to ask another engineering student if taking 18 credits the first semester is reasonable. If I managed my time sufficiently, would it be possible to participate in some extracurricular activities? Thanks

18 credits is perfectly doable and very normal. Anything over that can be a bit too much for 1st semester of your 1st year.

Thanks a lot Sixflags, a second opinion would be nice though

I second Sixflags’s response. Keep in mind that the number of credits can be misleading. 18 credits of freshman year classes could be a lot easier than say 14 credits of junior level engineering courses. I personally had a semester with 21 credits, and it was not that bad because I had 6 credits of easy humanities classes.

It depends on you honestly. If you loaded up in high school it probably won’t seem bad at all, and if not it might be hard to adjust. I find it helps to always think of my course load as heavy, keeps me honest and stops me from over committing to other jank. Good luck with your first semester!

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure that I’ll be able to handle it and still maintain a good GPA.
