Is it considered cheating if you go through the textbook or if you google something? I want to make sure because I have a quiz in Public Speech due by September 4th and I would like to know what is considered cheating when taking an online quiz, hence the title. I have no intention of cheating and I want to do my best in college as honest and as graceful as possible.
Look at your syllabus. Usually, if you have an online quiz, you’re allowed to use google or any notes. But some professors or colleges might have an honor code where they expect you to not use notes or any other outside information. Using another person is universally regarded as cheating in my experience. If your syllabus doesn’t say, email your professor and ask.
If you are not explicitly told that you are allowed to use outside resources, that’s cheating.
@bodangles it doesn’t mention anything about cheating except for plagiarism on the syllabus so I’ll have to email the professor.
Phrase that email carefully - “am I allowed to use any outside resources on this quiz” vs. “should I use the textbook or google”. Don’t want to make a bad impression.
