I always get stuck on the employment history section of job applications. I am being paid for undergraduate research but the money goes through the financial aid office. It seems odd to not count this as employment since I am being compensated for my work, but I am not paid through the university payroll and I don’t receive a W2 or anything. Any thoughts on this? I just submitted an application where I only include my W2 type jobs and now I am second guessing myself.
I would think that you could and should include it. I worked as a handyman under the table for a while and I was told by a career counselor to include that in my resume when I thought I shouldn’t. Plus, that’s a more notable position and can probably be verified more easily even though you don’t receive a W2
If the only place you can list it under is employment history, then you should list it there. If there are other subsections (like research experience or other experience), then you can list it there if you feel more comfortable with that. But it certainly counts as employment history.
