What is considered valedictorian/salutatorian to colleges?

At my school, valedictorian/salutatorian isn't determined until after the senior final exams. But we all apply for college now but that is just valedictorian/salutatorian using junior year data.

If say one person was 3rd ranked at the end of junior year and then announced the official valedictorian senior year, would they be qualified for val/sal university scholarships?

What if one person was 1st after junior year(aka on college apps) but then after senior jear dropped down to 3, were they able to qualify for val/sal scholarships?

Now that's just based on weighted gpa..
On our reports, not only does class rank show for weighted gpa but also unweighted GPA. Can someone with a 4.0 UW call themselves valedictorian then? since they are rank 1. even though their Weighted isn't #1/2... do they qualify for val/sal scholarships even though they are rank #1/2 UW but not the high school's official val/sal?

This is utterly confusing.

Most admitted students have to send in official end of the year transcripts and grades, so colleges would know if you have risen or dropped down. I’m sure if you have risen you would qualify but if you dropped you wouldn’t. But it all depends on the school. Contact the admissions offices to see their individual policies.

That being said, your ultimate “title” isn’t going to get you in or get you rejected. It’ll be the entirety of your file. Being ranked near the top if great – doesn’t have to be one or two. Make sense?

yeah I’m just wondering as I saw colleges offering scholarships to val/sal’s. =)

Those scholarships will be awarded to admitted students who attend and who ended up Vals/Sals. If you drop down in Senior year you don’t get it.
