Would someone please explain to me what is the Early Write program and how many people does Williams select to write to under this program? Thanks.

The following is the description of the Early Write Program found on the Williams admissions page at

http://www.williams.edu/admission/apply_procedures.php:

“In February and March, a small number of Regular Admission candidates with superior qualifications receive early notification of acceptance. No special application is required and no response is expected of Early Write candidates until May 1.”

Also, they did say they will not usually do Early Write for those who are applying from a school that has many applicants to Williams as well because they don’t want people freaking out when one student is accepted early while others aren’t.

Basically, it’s for applicants who Williams thinks will be “popular” among the colleges so Williams is trying to snare them first ;)

Kind of like “likely letters.”

Unlike “likely letters,” “early write” letters are official offers of admission.

Thanks to all who responded.

Might be kinda interesting to know: at my school we had four kids apply to Williams (that I know of): one ED (me), the other three RD, and those three were all early write…so I don’t know exactly what qualifies as “a lot” of people applying at any one school.
