I recieved a letter from my school informing me that I may be eligible for "Eligibility in the Local Context" to the universitiy of california. The school is asking me for my transcript to send to the UC's. What in the world is ELC admission????? Is it good, bad. Should I send the school my tranascript?

I think it's good. I believe that for the UCs, any student in like the top 5% of the class gets automatic acceptance or something along those lines. They're checking to see if you're one of them. I don't know for sure though.

If you are an ELC candidate, UCI and UCD (and below) give up 99.8% acceptance rate, while UCSD it hovers around 85%-90% and for LA and Berkeley it is about 45%-50%, so by being ELC your chances at the top 2 UC's essentially double. Now, mind you, these figures are before the University of California began using the "comprehensive review" formula, so thing's might've changed (but I don't expect it to change too much, one super vague fact that I could've made up in my mind- I seriously forgot- is that after comprehensive review UCB's acceptance rate for ELC kids shot up to 60%, but don't kill the messenger, please). Best of luck, congrats on being a good student,

If I just get the letter saying that I MAY qualify for ELC but don't actually get ELC, can I still mention that "May Qualify" letter on myapplication. ( I heard that only the top 8% of our grade even recieved that letter)

i think you find out before you apply to UCs. and ELC is only supposed to be for top 4%...

from what i was told last year when i got my ELC letter, was that it guarenteed you admission to a UC. i'm not sure how that works, but i guess it means thaty ou will for sure get into like UCR.

Also, being ELC made filling out my UC application very very easy. As an ELC student, your high school sends your transcript to the UC office, meaning when you go online to fill out your application, all of your courses are entered already, along with basic school information and personal information. All you really have to do to fill out the application was fill in test scores, which actually if you took them early enough in your junior year, were entered already, information on your parents and ethnic bakcground, along with your essays and all the other junk dealing with EC's. basically it just made it much easier to apply.

Anyone who has the possibility of getting an ELC status is notified in the summer or just before the summer, while the actual tabulations are not completed until the ultimate 4% is determined. By August-September you should know if you've qualified and they'll send you a lot of letters giving you a special account when you sign in. The UC's know which students are ELC and which are not, so you don't need to write this information in, and since the students are notified pre-application time, then you shouldn't have to fill it in. If you were a candidate and did not receive the status, you SHOULD NOT write it in as, say, an accomplishment or honor. Best of luck,
