I heard about it from a friend. It is a 3-week summer program hosted by Yale University called "Explo". I visited the website and it looks like a summer study type program which offers a variety of different courses. It looks kind of fun, but I am wondering if anyone has heard of/attended it before and if it is worth going too. Also, how good would something like this look on college resumes? Thanks!

I got something in the mail about a week or so ago. Actually, it might have been for my brother because I will be too old by this summer. It talked about the program at Yale and a few other colleges. I think Wellesley was also a participating college.

Very important fact: it’s taking place at Yale (and other sites) but it’s run by an outside organization. They hire Yale staff and rent facilities. If you want a college experience and can afford it, it’s a nice luxury. But it’s no more impressive on your resume than your neighbor’s kid who works at Dairy Queen all summer.

Explo has no affiliation to Yale. They RENT facilities and run a very expensive summer camp. They hire college students to teach pre-canned courses that the students have no background in.

It’s exactly the same type of thing as SIG.

Yale is where grade 10-12 go, and Wellesley is where 7-9 go.

It gives kids a chance to live in a dorm. They make you look wealthy on a college resume.

You can search on CC for other reviews of both Explo and SIG.

These are not to be confused with the real talent search programs through Johns Hopkins CTY, Northwestern CTD, Duke, University of Denver and Stanford’s EPGY, which are all very high quality. There are a lot of other high quality summer programs where you actually interact with college faculty. Check out

^ Thnx Classic: I just guessed they hired Yale staff. Perhaps not…
