What is first generation college student??

Both my wife and I didn't go to college in USA. Does our child considered "first generation college student"?

Did you guys go to college elsewhere in the world? Because if so, then your child is not a first-generation student. However, if you have never gone to college in any country, then yes, your child is considered a first-generation college student.

How does college will know if we went to any college anywhere else in the world.

Um, well, how will they know that you didn't attend any college? Please, don't be dishonest about whether you attended college or not somewhere else in the world. It's unfair to applicants whose parents really haven't attended college at all.

They can't check it, but I will be surprised if a PARENT expresses dishonesty in order to get an edge in the college admissions process.

That is why I asked the question as I've come across lots of posts where it is being said first generation Viet's immigrant bound to college. How one know whether or not the parent went to college at Viet?

I don't believe in misrepresenting facts. but my question is how robust is this system.

I'm not sure how they will know. However, if they find out by some crazy leak of information, they can rescind admission and degree.
