So a lot of people received the Bridge on Friday and students with very high scores got bridged… this confused me… I’m talking like 1250+ SAT’s for instate student with outstanding GPAS and rigor… how much more competitive did clemson get this year?? All I know is there is going to be a lot of upset people his week if this trend continues
Clemson has likely been getting more apps this past year or so because of football success. That can change things admissions-wise.
Clemson, as a general trend, has been growing more and more selective over the past decade for many reasons, and the national championship definitely helped. From what I’ve gathered from the last couple of years, Clemson has been received more applications because of (1) athletic success in more than just football (Go Tigers!), (2) more national and international
prestige, (3) being a medium sized (<20000 students) school with plenty of opportunities, and (4) Clemson growing into the state’s flagship university, more so than SC at this point. Hope that cleared things up.
@girl1998 Clemson has been becoming more competitive over the past 5 years due to increased applications. High stats students have become the average applicant at Clemson over the past few years. Siblings who have stats similar to older siblings who were admitted just 2 years ago are now being bridged , deferred or waitlisted . Look at the CDS for the past 3-5 years and you’ll see a steady upward trend in stats . It’s not confusing . It’s simply supply and demand. There’s not space for everyone , and they are able to select the highest stats candidates. There should be no assumptions by anyone that they are guaranteed admission. And to those who consider Clemson as a safety may need to rethink that.Rank, rigor and major also play a huge part in acceptance .
@carolinamom2boys That should be pinned post. It explains it all so well. Thank you for your insight.
@carolinamom2boys I totally agree. It seems like Clemson is starting to become to South Carolina what UNC - Chapel Hill is to North Carolina. I believe Chapel Hill’s acceptance rate is 30%. They received over 44,000 applications this year.
@carolinamom2boys Clemson is not a safety net college at all!! Not these days!
I totally agree @SCLADY12 , but you can go on any number of Chance Me threads on CC and see if listed as one.
Son was just waitlisted. OOS, 3.5/4.0 unweighted and 29 ACT (superscore of 30), varsity athletics, and several other extracurriculars. By comparison, has been admitted with nice (>10K/year) schollies at Bama, Florida State and Miami (Ohio). Not a safety net, indeed.
D just wait listed 3.8 uw/4.8 w with 1330 SAT. Very disappointing! Got into UT, Purdue, Belmont, Tennessee, Alabama, and Baylor. All with merit scholarships. Of course Clemson was her #1…
I really think it depends on your major too. They say they dont look at that but I think they do. They cant have a class of all engineers or business people. We are still waiting in PA…Nothing in the mail today.
@mainlinemom Clemson admits to major so they definitely look at that, and then compare rank, rigor, GPA and test scores within that major’s applicants.
I had a 1440 SAT, 31 ACT and I’ve been in honors and AP classes for all of school, and I got bridged. I’m a little confused by that decison, but I know a lot of other really well qualified people who were bridged or rejected this year. must just be a competitive year
HUUUUUUUUUUGely more competitive for less than 4000 spots!
