My son is high school sr. and wants to apply to JMU. His GPA is 3.52w. He just took the ACTs last weekend. What number should he be hoping to get to help with relatively low weighted GPA? He DOES have tons of ECs including leadership and volunteering (NHS, Beta, Boys State, District Youth Council, Varsity Sports, church volunteer, etc.) I'm worried about the GPA not being that high, even though his school is on a 6 points scale (A=100-94, etc.) and wonder if JMU will adjust that to compare with other students on a 10 point scale.

He should hope to get a 22-26 on the ACT (JMU’s 25/75 breakdown). Even with a relatively low GPS (much depends on how low), being male and many ECs should help. If he is in-state that is also a big help. If you are in Virginia, your school counselor should be able to provide a wealth of data on whether your son is within the range of admitees historically.
