I talked my S to apply to Binghamton last minute. Now, he has been waitlisted at all of his top choices and accepted to Binghamton. Tell me some good stuff about Binghamton that I can pass on.

Cost.
Education one receives (very good).
Nature preserve.

That’s it. It is crowded, and not very pretty look at. The campus does appeal to me for some reason though. I suggest visiting it.

its a very clean campus.
dorms were fairly decent compared to other sunys.
lacks that traditional architectural appeal of ivy covered old buildings but if you like more modern architecture, the campus is nice.
D1 sports if youre into that
big rep, very selective this year.
diverse student body

If you don’t live in NY and like your own state school, it’s probably more fun than Binghamton and a better value. If you live in NY; its probably the best known SUNY for academic excellence.

If you like lots of rain and clouds, then you’ll like Vestal, NY.

it’s just a great value!!

WaitingDad, if you don’t have any other purpose on the Bing forums since you’ve been waitlisted don’t be bitter and ruin it for others.

I saw the campus twice, once during the Spring Fling, during which the weather was amazing and the campus was beautiful. The second it was overcast, cold, and a little rainy, and I still thought the campus was beautiful. So I’m confident I’d be happy to live on it. All of the residence halls are like little communities within the college, which is very cool. It has great academics, good reputation, especially since it’s getting much more selective.

People are really starting to consider it an Ivy League Public University, at least in NY anyway.

If your S likes music, the radio station is an awesome awesome place. And I’m not only saying that because I’m a DJ there.

The nature preserve is absolutely beautiful. It’s completely lovely.

The Old Union is in the process of being renovated and will be all shiny and new if/when you get here.

The dorms are nice and comfortable (in my opinion).

When I was there today for a tour, there were kids walking around wearing Binghamton sweatshirts. People seemed open and friendly, happy to be there and proud of their school. Coming from a school in Manhattan where people seem cold, disconnected, and in their own world, this is a welcome change.

You guys are great! Bing sounds like it might be a good fit.

I just read corporate recruiters ranked Bing 11th among all schools for the quality of its graduates and the median starting salary of graduates is $57K.

Looks like you already read everyone one else, but I guess i’ll just put my input in :)

I saw the campus once, it was raining and cloudy. To be honest, Bing doesn’t have the cliche college campus with the historic buildings and rolling green lawns, but I found myself attracted to it nevertheless. The students are very friendly and seem happy, so I guess they found something to like about it. Bing is also a school with a great reputation in and outside NY state. ;D

I love hearing good things about Bing.

its cheap!!!

The education is on par with any other top tier public state university. I personally think the campus is pretty, especially overlooking the mountains, and we have a nature preserve and a greenhouse. We’re a very green friendly campus too, and recycle a lot. I know we’ve placed on some top lists for the nation for that. We’re located not too far from the city, and we’re on a major parkway so there’s lots of stores nearby so that’s convenient. Students are relatively happy and friendly here as well. The dorms are currently being updated now, so for anyone looking to go in the future, the dorms will be even better then. Not that they’re bad now, they’re fairly big (depending on the community) and comfortable as mentioned previously.

And probably most important to parents other than cost, is that the campus is VERY safe. I have never walked back from my room after class around 9 pm and felt scared to be walking alone. There are SO many blue lights and there’s even an escort service if you need.

All this being said, I love Binghamton and couldn’t see myself going anywhere else.

I graduated from Binghamton in 1982 and still feel that my choice of colleges was one of the best decisions I ever made. After a few years working, I went on to law school (UNC Chapel Hill, 1988). I’ve spent my life working with people who graduated from far more expensive, prestigious schools, but aside from bragging rights there has been no difference. The education I received prepared me just as well for life, while the lack of crippling debt resulted in my having more choices.

I am a junior at this university and I think it is a great place to be. First off the campus is gorgeous and very enviornmentally friendly. We are one of the greenest universities in the country. We also have a great education program for a really great price. In terms of activities, we have over 180 student groups on campus and many sports teams (both main teams and club sports). You can check out all the student groups at [Home - PAWS - Powered by CollegiateLink](Login).
