Has anyone heard the news about Trinity? It is the most ridiculous thing ever, and it definitely deserves consideration if you are going to apply or even look there.

By the way, what's up with your user name?...a bit odd, no?

It is a joke

Oh. On who...?

myself, naturally

That's a relief...

What's the diff b/w the two schools? What are Trin's relative strength (or weaknesses) - - socially and academ?

D, who is black, a little prepie and a serious jock (3 varsity sports; laments lack of spirit at western MA boarding sch) is considering both schools. (NB: D is jock, but straight-laced - - so far not at all into alcohol or drugs; recently attended concert w/ friends at nearby college and was horrified by constant aroma of marijuana). Her academ interest: architecture and engineering; wants to study abroad.

Both schools are academically top-rate thought Trinty's engineering and English Depts. are extremely good. Trinity is larger than Conn College with a couple hundred grad students on campus which - coupled with its urban location (and all the plusses and minuses of that) gives it a more cosmopolitan air. It also may be a tad less east coast preppy these days because the admin has rigorously tried to attract minority (my S is a minority) and public school students over the last few years - as well as students committed to public/community service and urban issues. Otherwise, both schools have strong athletic programs (D3 and intramural), both lean more toward drinking than drugs (discounting pharmaceuticals such as Ritalin which appears to be the study drug of choice on campuses nationwide these days), decent arts programsk, and give you an extremely solid liberal arts education.

Funny, Conn College families say the same things about Conn : actively seeking to increase divesity (currently Trin 5% black, Conn 4%) and less preppie than Trin! So, I guess other than urban setting (Trin) and a bit of a gender imbalance (Conn), it's a coin toss and no cause for stress.

Thanks.

My kid had both schools on his list but decided he wanted a bit bigger and more urban. (I loved New London however.)
